“Now, Congress can move forward and begin drafting this critical legislation"

WASHINGTON, D.C. (MPG) – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05), Chair of the Ways and Means Select Revenue Measures Subcommittee, issued a statement following passage of the Fiscal Year 2022 budget resolution, which includes budget reconciliation instructions for Congress to craft sweeping legislation to invest in families, workers, and the middle class. 

“Today I voted to pass a resolution that paves the way for passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill while adopting a budget resolution that marks the first step towards enacting the President’s historic Build Back Better Agenda,” said Thompson. “Now, Congress can move forward and begin drafting this critical legislation to expand economic security for families, lower health care costs, address climate change, bolster child care and more. I will continue to work with my colleagues to help ensure Congress provides vital support to working families in our district.”

S. Con. Res. 14, a Concurrent Resolution on the Budget for Fiscal Year 2022, would provide for long-term investments to be fully offset by a combination of new tax revenues, health care savings, and long-term economic growth. The agreement would prohibit new taxes on families making less than $400,000 per year, and on small businesses and family farms.

Thirteen House Committees and twelve Senate committees will now report legislation consistent with budgetary targets to the Budget Committee by September 15. The Budget Committee will then combine the legislation and prepare it for floor consideration.
